We need to do more to dismantle fatphobia in the trans community. I don't think enough thin trans people realize that a lot of us stayed in the closet much longer or even haven't come out because we feel that being fat means we can never successfully transition.
It's part of why I try to be very visible and upfront about my fatness because if it helps even one other trans person realize they can be fat and trans and that's an ok way to be then it's worth it.
@liminalnobilis Fatphobia doesn’t get the derision it deserves. @FatLikeMePod is a podcast that directly addresses the media’s bs with body image & Interviews positive creators focused on this topic.
@S_Winterthorn @FatLikeMePod It really doesn't and it creates even more gatekeeping and hurdles for fat trans people. Like I know so many trans women who've been repeatedly denied SRS because of BMI limit BS and at least one of them ended her life last year because of it.
@liminalnobilis @kinaesthetique A truscummy person told me I’d “probably look like a drag queen” because of my weight and it nearly made me stop. Another told me I was probably too fat to have FFS or GCS.
Every person who needs to transition deserves to, regardless of body type.
